Here's a Snapshot Of One of My Bookshelves

Below is a snapshot of one of my bookshelves to see the kind books I read and own. This is much easier than having to type them in. See anything interesting?

Okay, and while I'm at it, here's another one:

Unfortunately I don't categorize them very well, but enjoy.

Suffering from book envy!! We had to move temporarily to a smaller place, and 95% of my books are boxed and stored 300 miles from here. Looks like some good stuff here...thanks for sharing!

I wasn't certain, but do you consider this a lot of books??

That's eventually the kind of bookshelf I hope to acquire...though I don't think I'll be wasting either time or money on someone like Spong.

Once I'm in the Air Force, 90% of my income will be going towards books. :) I'm going to have a lot of time to read...

It looks my wish list at amazon will be expanding shortly.

Nothing on brain science?

John, thanks for posting the photos. I see some titles I own amongst the books in your collection, but many more that are still on my wish list.

For a popular overview of the brain and the history of human belief in a separate soul or spirit I recommend John McGraw's Brain and Belief.

From the book: "...it has only been recently, in the last 150 years, that people have begun to seriously attribute mental abilities to the brain. By and far, most people have always considered such abilities to issue from the immaterial soul. People thought of themselves as ghosts moving around bodies-almost like a state of possession."
"If one assigns consciousness to the brain, one is a materialist...The staggering amount of denial involved in holding both the materialist and dualist theories suggests a deep-seated inability to accept materialism outright. ...humanity has always been unable to accept this knowledge."

I think I see some issues of Faith and Philosophy in the second shot. Do I get a prize or something? :-)

Yes, Ex, and your prize is..."Good job!" ;-)

BTW this does not represent all of my books, and I'm no specialist on brain science nor do I want to be either. Pictured are a few books about the relationship of the brain and the mind, even if they are older ones.

The truth is that in my lifetime I have sold and given away more books than I presently have in my library, but I have a good library just the same.

Let me make a comment on John Shelby Spong. If William Lane Craig can debate him then he's worthy to read, and he did. I think the problem with most Christians about Spong is that they wonder to themselves how someone like him can continue to believe even though he debunks the foundations of their evangelical faith, and I agree. But he presents the results of scholarship on the issues that divide us very well. He's a very good populaizer of the results of scholarship, and we need him. Besides, his scholarship is much better than Josh McDowell's by far. I recommend his writings.

John,

Not surprisingly, we have a great many books in common. Even Spong.

Looks almost like my two bookcases...but you're more organized than I am, John.

Oh, and my book cases are Wal-Mart plastic snap-togethers!

I'm a much cheaper bastard.

Neat idea John. I see we have read a lot of similar material.

Can you post some more shots. As a book snoop, I love to look at other peoples libraries.

On a side note, I see that Spong argues FOR the existence of Jesus in his latest book.

He is definitely not a Mythicist.

You clearly need more balance. I am sending you a box of Benny Hinn, Sylvia Browne, Jack Van Impe, Anton LaVey, Kent Hovind, some devotionals from Point of Grace and the Newsboys and for the top shelf...leave that open...I have a crapload of TBN love gifts for ya.
