Debate Challenge

I have issued a debate challenge over at the FRDB forums. Would any Christian (someone who is reasonably skilled in debate) like to take me up on the question of whether or not God raised Jesus from the dead?

Sorry about the deleted comment above. I did not spell check, and I wanted to avoid some embarrassment.

Would you accept an answer to your challenge by an amateur?

I do not hold degrees in theology or apologetics. I do have a graduate certificate from Biola University, and I have read a few books.

Want to have a go?

J.K., just wanted to let you know that the link on your profile to your blog isn't correct. The link you have is http://jkjonesthinks.blogger.com.

It should be: http://jkjonesthinks.blogspot.com

Or buy my book for a fuller account.

JK,

I accept. If you will, please take up the challenge over at the FRDB forums since that's where we'll be debating. We'll work out the parameters there.

I'm late to this, but I'm interested to see how Jones and Spencer work this out. I'll register over at the forums and follow the debate.

I just finished my law degree, so maybe it's just the remains of lawschool in me but I have a hard time with this debate resolution because it seems like there are so many different other resolutions that it will probably turn into instead, such as -

"does God, or does/did the historical Jesus, actually exist?"

"are miracles actually possible?"

"are the Biblical gospel accounts historically reliable or are, for that matter, any historical accounts reliable?"

I don't think most Christians use "God raising Jesus from the dead" as proof or evidence for any of the above questions. Rather you have answer the above questions first to get to the question of "God raising Jesus from the dead."

This is an important question though, because answering in the negative destroys any reason whatsoever to adhere to Christianity, while answering in the positive results in some shocking further logical deductions.

Spencer,

The link to FRBD forums gives an error message this morning.

Would like to. Am currently engaged in debates with Owlmirror and Cromm. Get in line.

JK,

The forums are now fixed: you can post in the formal debate proposal thread.

Spencer,
I have reviewed some of your posts and debates, and your approach to the topic of Christ’s resurrection is not typical.

I do not think the affirmative should be the typical “Jesus Christ rose from the dead,” but “God raised Jesus Christ from the dead.”

There is a lot to prove in that affirmative. Just how big do you want this debate to be?

The time commitment for this could be considerable.

JK,

The proposition that the affirmative will be defending is: God raised Jesus from the dead. I indicated this over at the FRDB forums: http://www.freeratio.org/showthread.php?p=6041322#post6041322

The debate will consist, at minimum, of three rounds, and in order to debate at FRDB, you will need to create an account. Have you done so?

I have now registered, and I am waiting for my account to be verified.

Since I've won all my arguments here I am ready. I even have a few arguments for the existence of God that no apologist has used. But it will require me to lead you to them. I just can't tell you what they are or that will spoil the effect. This will be beyond PhD level thinking.
