The Decade in Pictures "What a Wonderful World"

Anyone care to count how many of these pictures are about suffering through wars, floods, and the like? Link. Only a Pollyanna can look at this carnage and sing this song. ;-) Play the song while looking at the pictures if you can! I know, I know, believers will say this is not God's fault. Nothing is, right? But if a business was in this much disarray the CEO should be fired (remember, like God, he too must deal with human beings)!

This is a unique situation where many of the employees are ignoring the CEO. If the employees started paying attention to the CEO, how would that spell out? Do you think maybe the situation would improve? I do.

I agree John. Only a Pollyanna can look at that and sing "What a Wonderful World." There's plenty wrong with the world. But I trust that God has good intentions in allowing what He does.

I couldn't access the pictures, but let me guess -- it's POE again isn't it?

You wrote this: "But if a business was in this much disarray the CEO should be fired"

I don't assign blame or conviction on God or others so why would I fire a CEO who told me in advance what to prepare for?? Only those who invest their time in perpetuating their unhappiness against themselves and others like the honest CEO would reject His advice and then fire Him.

BTW, I have been through an government declared 'disastrous' and all I can say is that while Mother Nature is very impressive, the love that came through my fellow believers for me and my family was way more impressive than the loss and damages we sustained.

As always,

Shouldn't an omnipotent CEO be able to find an effective way of communicating with his employees?

Okay, Houx, your comment of, "I trust that God has good intentions in allowing what He does." sturck me as particularly funny... Only because god must be a total prick.

This week a bunch of senators prayed to stop healthcare, yet the dems got their 60 votes. Maybe the repubs are wrong and your sky daddy wants healthcare reform, or is god just giving them more trials because he's a world class asshole?

Or, the most likely thing is that he doesn't exist since the entire universe behaves EXACTLY as one would expect without the need for any god(s).

I'd be careful about what you're projecting there Mr. LaQuella...

And then this, "Or, the most likely thing is that he doesn't exist since the entire universe behaves EXACTLY as one would expect without the need for any god(s)"

Your expectations for the world did not come out of a void. They came from your observations of the created world. You could not fathom creating a world from a void -- try it and you'll see what I mean. Try envisioning a 'world' without using any of the components of this world that you have already experienced and witnessed - you cannot use color, form, gravity, shape, shade, light, dark, etc. etc. You cannot do it! You will reference something that you have already seen and experienced! So, while we like to think it is wise to bypass God to take credit and power for ourselves, we are not infinitely endowed with the ability or trust to do so.

God will either love you as a friend/family member or as an enemy - your preference.

BTW, one more thing, the way to prepare for disasters and death in a faithful way, is by practicing and forming grace. Ppl that are involved in disasters or suffering do not need scolding or reproach or debates about POE for being caught up in disasters in the physical realm. Preparation, by God's standards, means being equipped to respond with gracious and merciful outreach.

MMM, I'm a little confused by your comment. I absolutely did not intend anything hateful in my comment, nor do I consider any of the other commenters my enemy.

John said...

Larian,

I agree there are places in the universe where it seems as if God's grace is missing. But I also believe God is under no obligation to be merciful to His creation. Since grace is unmerrited favor then it is never owed. God cannot be said to be unjust for allowing sufferenig not only because grace is never owed but because He has good intentions with morally justifiable reasons for allowing death and suffering. My God doesn't owe His creation anything. His grace sustains all of creation.

Leah, sorry - I should have referenced my response to your comment, "Shouldn't an omnipotent CEO be able to find an effective way of communicating with his employees"

I think the 'love your enemy' clause is a clear communication myself, but not well received

I agree with Houx -- The most compelling and profound conviction for good that I have experienced throughout my life has come out of the depths of darkness and yes, evil. A firmly rooted conviction to love beyond all circumstances and not to allow destruction or despair to corrupt my humanity or ability to be gracious and merciful is the faithful goal.

Although I am tempted sometimes,I do not condemn or scorn those who harbor doubt or contempt for God. Instead I recognize, and I remember. I have known darkness and I have known light - even though darkness exists, I do not desire to be conformed to its standards ever again. I will pursue grace and mercy as long as I am able.
