"The Christian Delusion" Books Have Been Printed!

Over a year ago I began working on this book. It's been a lot of work too. So you can imagine my excitement at hearing that the books have been printed and are being sent out to the stores. Be the first on your block to get a copy. Here is the official website. I think it's a great book myself, sure to be in print for as long as I live. Spread the news if you would.

I have yet to read any of your books, but im seriously considering it.
Can your books br found in a book store or do they have to be ordered?

WIBA is in the bookstores now. TCD will be shortly.

Great news, John. Will be picking up a copy. Thank you.

John.

Ok thanks, I figured i've been on this blog for a little while maybe I'll give the books a read.

Your first book was wonderful. I can't wait to read this one!

Unknown said...

Just pre-ordered it on Amazon! If this has even half the solid intellectual substance that was in WIBA, it's bound to be a nuke compared to average pro-secular writings. I'll check the book's site regularly when the counter attacks come. ;D

Be sure and brace yourself John, I'd be willing to put my life on it that future historians will rank you higher than the likes of Dawkins or anyone else alive today in toppling the superstitions that run rampant worldwide.

You're bound to become a household name for many (and you already are for me)!

John,
I am looking forward to reading your new book (clearly to answer those questions logically and systematically).

I am truly sorry that there are people like nostradamus here that are rude to you. You already know that a mature Christian would NEVER tell you that you are "i" or name call in any way. This only indicates insecurity OR it is a lazy mind trying to express itself.

You are an intelligent person and I hope and pray you will reconsider that there are valid answers to your objections.

I am looking forward to going through them one at a time.

Michael

@Breckmin

How about you Michael ? Are you intellectually honest enough to be prepared to have your mind changed. You'll find that in science and freethinking community , unlike religion it is considered a virtue for a person to be open minded enough to have their mind changed. But ONLY on encountering solid evidence and argument that can stand close scrutiny.

Sticking to dogmatic positions out of devotion to some deity, or for other reasons doesnt cut it here. Neither will silly arguments about how we "reject god" or have in some other way either "lapsed" spititually or have some failing os "sin" etc. Or any other such false argument suggesting that in your "reality" we all "deeply down" know your "jesus" is real but refuse to "follow" him etc. This is vapid and utter hogwash.

Are you prepared to consider that maybe you need to reconsider your reasons for belief including any personal spiritual experiences ?. Are YOU prepared to consider seriously the notion that maybe you've just been plain mistaken all these years ?.

It will be available but when I don't know.

Great news John!

any reason why you didn't buy the domain thechristiandelusion.com and use that rather than a google sites page?

Anonymous said...

Jeff, Richard Carrier set this site up for me initially so I went with it.

It's listed in the book too, so there's no changing it now.

Hey John, congratulations on the book.

I'd like to invite you to check out my new site. It's called "Dear Pastor Andy" (dearpastorandy.blogspot.com) and is Christian Apologetics based with a Q&A format. I really think you'll like it.

Pastor Andy, thanks for stopping by. I see what you're doing. You could do your readers a service by asking and answering the many questions we raise in this book.

Cheers.

Nonchai,
Imagine if you personally went to the top of Shanghai World Financial Center to pray and asked for specific things to happen (if they were true) and within seconds you began to witness miracles?

Would you still deny God's existence?

What if you had a relationship with Someone Who you knew was factually a REAL Person (or Personal Existence likened unto a Heavenly Father) and He communicated to you over and over through unbelievable "coincidences" which addressed your specific needs?

What if you had physical problems and received the miracle of healing and knew that it was factually related to Jesus Christ of Nazareth Who gave His life 2000 years ago?

I can go on (and on) giving examples...but what you don't realize is that there is "no changing my mind" about the reality of the Living God or the specific truth that is related to born-again Christianity.

I have seen too many miracles and experienced to many historical events for me NOT to know that the God of Abraham is the One True God and that Jesus Christ of Nazareth is His Holy Son and Savior of the world.

All I can do is answer your questions so that you can know that there are no philosophical inconsistencies with born-again Christianity.

No, I am not going to change my mind about what I have witnessed - nor am I going to change my mind about the Creator Who I know to be factual.

Do you think that you could convince a missionary from a remote part of the world who had witnesses the Power of God and seen the power of the enemy (satan) that there was somehow "not a God?"

Jesus Christ of Nazareth is real and He is Lord, Savior, God and Rightful King. The Christian stands in utter amazement at the GRACE/Mercy of God in his/her life.

There are answers to your questions.

@brockmin -

I'm weary of having to explain to faitheads like you why anecdotal miracle claims cound for diddly squat. so heres a nice rationalist rap tune instread.

Breckmin said...

personal observation of miracles do NOT convince those who do not have access to them...that was not the subject matter. The subject matter was about "me personally" changing my mind about the existence of the Creator.

I don't see that as happening (by God's grace and by God's grace alone).

John,

Can't wait for "The Christian Delusion" to be available.

My District library purchased "Why I Became An Atheist" at my recommendation (plus one-by-one, a few other books by Ehrman, Dan Barker, Dawkins, Lobdell, Eugenie Scott and others).

Your book is the most concentrated reference source for the arguments for rationality and against the rag-tag collection of unsubstantiated religious beliefs.

I have nearly finished carefully reading the library copy a second time, and decided I just had to have my own copy. Just ordered it, and "The Christian Delusion", from Amazon. It should be compulsory reading for any regular here :-)

Off topic, but as I said in an earlier thread, debates have no hope of replacing the in-depth carefully argued material as found in your book/s.

The answers to all D'Souza's tactical and rhetorical diversions in the debate are to be found in your book. I heard the debate; I'm studying your book. I'm glad you did request the audience to read your book (and D'Souza's). Done the latter too, by the way, and honestly cannot see any worthwhile content in it.

(By the way, you were too kind. Your approach was "Hey, I even like the guy"; his was to shortly after refer to you as a liar.)

Regards.

Hi Breckmin,

What do you think when astonishing coincidences are noted by people who are not necessarily religious?

AI: Coincidences

And what do you think when people beat terminal illnesses and are not necessarily religious?

The Body Can Beat Terminal Cancer —Sometimes. They should be dead. But a tiny number of people conquer lethal diseases.
by Jeanne Lenzer http://discovermagazine.com/2007/sep/the-body-can-stave-off-terminal-cancer-sometimes/article_view?b_start:int=1&-C=

Or there's the Jason Winters "tea" story. Did the tea heal him of an incurable inoperable tumor in his throat, or was he one of the few mentioned above? http://www.sirjasonwinters.com/story.htm

Norman Cousins survived three incurable illnesses in his lifetime--starting with TB as a child (he tried the unaccepted water cure and beat it), to an incurable heart ailment (he tried vitamin C and laughter therapy, watching Marx brothers films!) Cousins wrote a lot about the effect that emotional states have on the body's ability to heal.

Hi Breckmin,

Also . . .

What do you think of miraculous apparitions of the Virgin Mary (I personally heard the stories from two devout Catholics concerning the "sun dancing" in which the sun appeared to be around them and their travel group instead of up in the sky), Mormon, Buddhist and Hindu Near Death Experiences, as well as Native American Vision Quests, UFO encounters of the third the fourth kind, and Muslim miracles?

I'm agnostic.

Another odd coincidence is this one:

A large stained glass window in the Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana, California, bears an uncanny resemblance to the well known image of a clown named, “Bozo” (with his wavy red hair parted down the middle, red nose and big lips), though the window was not designed with that image in mind at all.

Dear Beloved Brethren in Christ:

After several more years of study, battling Satan and prayer; my first audio tape series entitled: God and His Eternal Word has now been totally revised and corrected. To deal with this never changing fact of God’s Eternal Truth, I have just released a very power and dynamic revised message entitled:

The Never Changing Word of God: The Bible and Eternal Truth

I’m very happy that (through much prayer and Bible study) God has showed me where I was wrong in my first tape message series and this newest tape message (now in it’s
9th revision) is must have that all Biblical and theological apologists will absolutely want in their libraries.

This newest apologetic defense will send both atheists and the Demonic world running in fear!

This powerful message is yours absolutely free! [Just pay a small $50.00 shipping and handing fee. Please state (when ordering) if you want it on 8 Track Tapes or 78 RPM records.]

May God Bless You As You Listen!

The DC Challenge, is the Loftus version of Pascal's Wager!

LOL!

Both basically ask, "What do you have to lose?"

Today I'll be buying your book, "Why I Became an Atheist: A Former Preacher Rejects Christianity" at the nearest bookstore and ordering online, "The Christian Delusion" as well. I like what you have to say and support you 100 percent. You're knowledgeable about your topics, have a vision which I support, and have amazing reviews from individuals I've spoken with. This is to say the least! You are also highly regarded and mentioned by me on all of my sites. Long live logic and reason!!

Winston: The DC Challenge, is the Loftus version of Pascal's Wager!

Actually no it's not. In Pascal's wager the Christian God is essentially assumed. In John's DC challenge you are asked to read the best books from both sides and evaluate the arguments to see which presents the best case. John is convinced that the arguments of the skeptics have a better case, and I agree.

The publishers are sending me a review copy of TCD sometime soon.

When I finish writing my review I will let you know. I look forward to reading it.

After reading the website of your book and being a visitor here for many years, all I can say is that I feel a degree of protectiveness for those who are impressed by these "controversial and daring issues". The Lord does have mercy, yes He does....

Breckmin said...

"the arguments of the skeptics have a better case, and I agree."

Anthony, think logically about this. Who are the people coming up with the questions and objections? It is the skeptics that the Christian apologists are "answering." So - of course - the skeptics will seem like they are ahead in the game... the Christian response is often delayed because the apologists are still busy teaching the flock about the last round of questions and objections.

But IF the Christian apologists can explain the logic of Christianity...how much more will an Infinite Creator Who is perfect be able to explain these things to you.

I would be honored to enter into an email conversation with you if you are willing.

There are answers to all of these questions...but we need to go through them systematically - one at a time.

Hi John. Jake from FFW here. I'm so glad guys like you, Barker and Ehrman are around to do the dirty work of exegesis. Thanks for exposing the emperor once again.

I'll be ordering a copy of TCD soon. The historicity of Jesus and personal witnessing seem to be in vogue again. Maybe because the atheists that buried that long dead and stinking body of evidence have long since been gone too.

Christian apologetics appear to be cyclical, just like their reasoning.

Hey John,

I ordered your latest book and I just received e-mail notification that it's been sent via UPS. I hope it's not an error given that I thought the release date wasn't until late in April. Bonus!

I'll let you know when it arrives so you can let others know if it's actually shipping.

All the best,

Russ
