How Do You Solve a Problem Like Believers?

Every once-in-a-while believers show up to remind me that I'm not succeeding in debunking Christianity, at least not with them. Rob Lundberg recently said this: "I haven't seen an argument from you John that would have me think that you're right either. Cheers." Well, let me make a few comments and then I have a song for people like him.

An argument does not have to be convincing in order for it to be a good argument, or sound one for that matter. I think I offer many good arguments that should convince others, but I know they won't convince many who are deluded. After all, how does one convince a brainwashed person so long as said person remains in the same company of other brainwashed people? "Interventions" require taking brainwashed people away from their brainwashed communities.

And so it just may not be my fault at all. I may be providing really good arguments regardless of whether they convince or not. It's just that the power of the Christian delusion is stronger than any argumentation can defeat. Let people like Rob tell me what kind of argument would convince him otherwise, and I'm sure he would say nothing would. Yep. And that's somehow supposed to be my fault or something? Really, what argument could dissuade him from thinking he has a personal relationship with Jesus? Anyone? Anyone?

Now for the song. It's an old one, but a good one. People like my friend Rob, and many others, are like Maria in The Sound of Music. How do you help people like this? How can you pin them down? Many a thing you'd like to tell them. Many a thing you hope they'd understand.

You get the point. ;-)

How do you solve a problem like Maria (i.e., believers--Rob, or...or...or...or...?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word that means Maria?
A flibbertijibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!

Many a thing you know you'd like to tell her
Many a thing she ought to understand
But how do you make her stay
And listen to all you say
How do you keep a wave upon the sand

Oh, how do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?

Cheers yourself Rob ;-)
