I Started Two New Debunking Blogs

That's right. We're expanding into new areas: Debunking Creationism, and Debunking the Christian Right. I don't have the needed expertise to deal effectively with these two topics but I think they are needed. I'm looking for two individuals who have expertise in these two areas and would each like to run these two sister blogs. Leave a comment or e-mail me if you're interested.

I'd like the creationism one. I've been wanting to a reason to sort out all the evidence for evolution I can find and make it into something easy to read for everyone. A blog would be a good place to do it.

Of course the fun of debunking genisis is good for a laugh too.

Like I said, I'm interested in getting people with expertise in these two areas to run these two sister blogs. They can invite others onboard as they see fit.

I think Andy Schlafly deserves first poke at debunking the right wing.

LOL @ scary jesus!

I'm afraid I don't have the necessary expertise to run one of these - but do I get any brownie points for having subscribed to both just now?

BTW, I spent part of Wednesday night at a Bible "study" with my mom at her church (which used to be mine a gazillion years ago before it took the Great Right-Cum-U-Turn). It just happened to be about Genesis 1. I didn't know that beforehand, but since everyone there was a long-time family friend, I decided to behave myself and treat it the whole thing as an exercise in cultural anthropology.

Very Strange Planet. The amount of creative hand-waving and farfetched yarn-spinning some people can get out of a "literal" reading (and of the English translation du jour, at that!) never fails to leave me speechless - not to mention scared shitless.

Finally my mom, who's never lost her mainline American Baptist liberal edge, had had enough and said, "It only says God created the heavens and the earth. It doesn't say anything at all about how. There's nothing that says you have to believe it happened a particular way. Why not by way of evolution? It makes sense based on what we see in the real world."

World-class props to my mom for saying what I was biting my tongue off to keep from saying. I'd gotten so disgusted and angry by that point that if I'd said it, there would have been some serious war.

I ready for the sites on Debunking...

...Islam,

...Hinduism,

...Buddhism (especially since I consider myself a progressive/pragmatic Buddhist),

...Astrology,

...Post-Modernism.

Anyone else want to see something debunked?

cpd314, at your suggestion I just started another blog about debunking paranormal phenomena. I want to focus on the major issues in the western world. We cannot do everything.

If I might make a suggestion, I would request that you post a list of good books on evolution. To me, the theory makes more sense than creationism, I.D., or even Fred Hoyle's interstellar cloud hypothesis. Unfortunately, thanks to my creationist schooling, most of my knowledge of the process of evolution can be found in Dawkin's Blind Watchmaker (which I really enjoyed).

Just an idea.

Here is the link listing creationist claims and their um "debunking" :)

Jesse an excellent overview and introduction is Neil Shubin's Your Inner Fish, also I would recommend Evolution by Prothero.

If anyone knows of someone who could be the major contributor for any of these blogs have them email me, please.

Evan, you?

Thanks a lot for the links. I've been to talk origins a few times, and I agree that it thoroughly debunks creationism. Of course, the statement of faith on Answers in Genesis debunks itself. It openly states that creationism is not based on any evidence.
