A Toast/Tribute to Dr. David Madison

Here is a toast and a tribute to David Madison on his 300th post here at Debunking Christianity.

After achieving 500 posts I now offer this toast: "May David live long and prosper in our shared goals to convince people of faith based on truth and grounded in solid evidence. Let him know below how he's helped you in your search for truth, and/or desire to convince others still in bondage to indoctrination and enculturation.

This month marks his 500th post! He sent me this note:

Hi John,

Here we are in 2026—that is, it’s been ten years since you invited me to write for the Debunking Christianity Blog. There is no way I can adequately describe my gratitude and appreciation for doing this!

I just reached another milestone: the article I published last Friday, April 3rd, was my 500th

In a few weeks I’m going to be taking a break. I will resume posting my Friday articles on 26 June.

This weekly writing schedule helps keep my 83-year-old brain is good condition—or so I hope. I also do a lot of reading, and every day I do my French homework. Imagine that: an 83-year old guy doing French homework! I’ve never been able to break the code of spoken French, but I do enjoy reaching books in French. As my mother asked me when I was a kid: “What are you doing to improve your mind?” I think of that every day.

Keep up your good work, John!

Cheers, David Madison

----------

Readers of this blog already know Dr. Madison. But here is a short introduction to him anyway.

--------

I first met Dr. David Madison in 2016, at the Rally for Reason in Washington, DC, see pic. Madison is a former Methodist minister and biblical scholar who no longer believes.

The first thing I wrote of his work was this brief review in for his book, Ten Tough Problems:

"If it looks and sounds like a fairy tale, it’s a fairy tale” (p. 184). So says David Madison, a biblically trained scholar, in an unequaled, educational, and entertaining counter-apologetics book that exposes ten of the toughest problems for the Christian faith as unworthy of thinking adults. Madison expertly presents a cumulative case against Christianity, which is the best way to compel childlike believers to abandon their make believe fantasies. While it’s written for pastors and their fleeced flock in the pew stalls, Christian philosophers should definitely pay heed since most of them are biblically illiterate, mindlessly defending the wacky doctrines derived from unevidenced ancient pre-scientific fairy tales. LINK

I became a huge fan of his and invited him here to write for us all. He understands how best to debunk Christianity. It has to do a great deal with the Bible. Since the Bible makes atheists out of readers--doing so will shock you to the bone--then how much more does reading what Madison says about the Bible. He honors us at DC by writing weekly essays on Friday, plus so much more, as he's also an administrator.

He honored me by asking for a Foreword to the 2nd edition of his book, Ten Tough Problems in Christian Thought and Belief (2nd ed. 2018). With his permission, you can read it right here. "Dr. David Madison, Debunker Par Excellence!"

--------

Let me highlight just a tiny number the many many posts of his over the years.

I consider the following post by David Madison--and the challenge itself--to be the most important one he's written. THIS. SHOULD. VIRAL. GO!

When God Is Nowhere to Be Found.

This is the Put-Up-or-Shut Up challenge that apologists run away from. He says, "Please tell us where we can find reliable, verifiable data about God, and all devout theists must agree: 'Yes, this is where the reliable, verifiable data can be found.'"

 Some others:

Quote of the Day On the Philosophy of Religion, By David Madison

"Everybody insists their own god exists and argues accordingly. Theism deserves the same respect as astrology, alchemy, and belief in a flat earth."

Dr. Hector Avalos wrote a nice review about his book, seen here: Dr. David Madison's New Book

Madison has done some podcasts, like this one by Clint Heacock for his MindShift podcast:

And this one by Seth Andrews:

Dr. David Madison has many quotable quotes:

If we are expected to take the gospels seriously as authentic accounts, we would need to see the rigorous disciplines that historians follow. Take a look at any modern biography, at any modern description of an historical era: the ends of these books have dozens of pages of notes on the sources used: letters, diaries, newspaper quotes that were researched in libraries and archives. Because real historians don’t rely on their imaginations or inspiration. They base their accounts on verifiable facts. https://www.debunking-christianity.com/2025/09/honest-sermons-on-gospel-of-mark_26.html

I especially liked this one:

The Eccentric, Inflated, Dangerous Theology of John’s Gospel

I quoted from it as the kicker to an important line of reasoning here:

The Gospels Fact-Check Themselves, Including Two Kickers!

This blog wouldn’t be what it is without him!

He's a cherished debunker of Christianity, the best of the best in my opinion!
