Nebraska State Senator Sues God

Link. I know this lawsuit is partially political, but think of the balls this guy has! And I know Christians will laugh, but there is just something about the brashness of these "New Atheists" who are getting the rest of us some attention, even if it's negative attention. It worked for gays. Why won't it work for atheists? See below:

LINCOLN, Neb. - The defendant in a state senator's lawsuit is accused of causing untold death and horror and threatening to cause more still. He can be sued in Douglas County, the legislator claims, because He's everywhere.

State Sen. Ernie Chambers sued God last week. Angered by another lawsuit he considers frivolous, Chambers says he's trying to make the point that anybody can file a lawsuit against anybody.

Chambers says in his lawsuit that God has made terroristic threats against the senator and his constituents, inspired fear and caused "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth's inhabitants."

The Omaha senator, who skips morning prayers during the legislative session and often criticizes Christians, also says God has caused "fearsome floods ... horrendous hurricanes, terrifying tornadoes."

He's seeking a permanent injunction against the Almighty.

OK being from Nebraska, I have to leave a few comments about this distinguished gentleman.
1) He is a grandstander
2) Most of the state dislikes him, to the point of passing term limits to end his 37 year career as a senator.
3) He loves to filibuster (talk and take up the floor so no work can get done. (Hence why most don't like him).

And don't get me started on his politics...

Personally I hope the lawsuit continues, I would love to see the subpoena.

I just wanted to let y'all know just cuz we be in the sticks we ain't all that backwards. :-)

Fruits of the spirit is a way to see if it is of God or if it is of the devil and as we can see by Dragon's comments this state senator's fruit is obviously evil.

so free thinker loftus is deleting comments without notice again.

Deceptive little fuck isn't he?

Everyones but Loftus fault.

You nauseauting dissmebler, your stupid picture and that asshole hat even make me sick.

Goldstein, or I mean Frank Walton, I'm leaving this last comment to show why you are banned from DC.

He does have a very good point.

Look up that lawsuit by Roy Pearson.

John- not that I'm a more experienced Waltonologist than you, but how can you be sure "emanuel goldstein" is Frank Walton? Frank is married and spells better; and frankly, I doubt he has the brains to disguise his style this cleverly.

But I could be wrong: this could well be how Frank talks and spells when he's not at home, where he's confined to making fun of the appearance of atheist's hands and nipples in a true Christian fashion. Praised be the Lord!

well,
it doesn't matter if its one person or not. They all this far have demonstrated that they can't think their way out of parking lot.

In all cases that I have deleted they have made an incorrect presumption that John is the only one that has the ability to delete comments.

i would have deleted this too had I gotten to it first.

Its more of that "cognitive bias, judgment heuristic, qualifier ignoring, jumping to conclusions" mode of operation that I keep talking about.

That kind of stinking thinking winds up making them look silly, jump to conclusions and make bad decisions.

Sometimes people need to be creative and try and think of other ways a conclusion could be true and iteratively investigate them before we settle on one.

Why is just suing God? Why not put him on the terrorist list? One is commanded to fear him. The deity not only kills innocents all over the place, he's documented as having wiped out entire cities for the crime of upsetting him, and remember kiddies.

Scott Adams is out there sometimes, but he sure can make you laugh.

God is Lord of Lords and King of Kings, so He can punish His subjects as He sees fit.

"God is Lord of Lords and King of Kings, so He can punish His subjects as He sees fit." Michael, what do you base this statement on? I know the answer, but I want you to talk about your presuppositions for a moment. As I've said in the comments section of my recent article, I am not close-minded to the existence of a God of sorts, but I'm having a hard time linking the idea of God to the God of the Bible. I made the leap when I was a Christian, but I really had no rational basis for it. Now I'm interested in hearing from other Christian thinkers, such as yourself, why you are so sure that God (if he exists at all) is a certain way.

Isn't he admitting the existence of God by suing him?

Dan, I think it's quite obvious that this Nebraska Senator DOESN'T believe in God. You have to be a complete dope not to see that he's trying to make a point here, nothing more.

Bill said...

Wait, this is the same Harold Camping that wrote a book declaring the end of the world would come in 1994??? How can you still believe in this clown? Use the brain that you believe God gave you and think for yourself.

Silly joseph, even God gave himself one do-over; that's why there are rainbows. Don't you read your Bible?

You know, you're right! What was I thinking?

cornelĂs- well, I have it on good authority that the world will end on March 23, 2008. That means you're wrong and will go to Hell. Het spijt me, maar het is onvermijdelijk.
