Examples of Ridicule
Recently I've defended the use of ridicule. Good ridicule must be based on some truth, otherwise it wouldn't be funny. It must also bring home an important point. Some of it is gentle humor while some of it is quite mean-spirited. Some people focus on ridicule while others focus on elaborately reasoned arguments. If you think ridicule is unbecoming of an atheist, or anyone for that matter, then you cannot like the comedy style of Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, or even Jay Leno or David Letterman. Look at the following good examples and then try to honestly tell me ridicule has no place in our cultural wars. [Click on the tag "Ridicule" below for more on this topic.]
1) My favorite is Bill Maher's mockumentary Religulous.
2) George Carlin: Religion is Bullshit:
3) Julia Sweeney: Letting Go of God.
4) Jeff Foxworthy said, "You might be a redneck if.." Well You Might Be a Fundamentalist, if...
5) Penn & Teller: Creationism
6) Mr. Deity:
7) DarkMatter2525:
8) NonStampCollector:
9) Edward Current:
10) Betty Bowers, America's Best Christian:
Bonus:
2) Song: "Dear God" I like this song a lot!

And talking about music I actually have a playlist of about 20 songs (feel free to skip those few, which are in russian).
My two favorites are:
"Don't need religion" by Motorhead and
"Hell" by Squirrel Nut Zippers
Isn't comparing the bible to bullshit just a tad insulting to the manure?

My reply...
Yes, the manure was very insulted, and the dried manure also voiced its outrage. I say we have a talk with John!

Often my comments don't get in here, so I will be brief:
search 'Edward Current" at you tube
use any search engine and search:
mr. deity
moral master 2.0
How about Yo-God God Detectors
Yeah! Edward currant is great! plus here's a classic:
God will f you up
In the artistic realm, I'd also recommend Paul Farrell’s Illustrated Stories from the Bible (that they won’t tell you in Sunday School). I’ll warn you, it’s not for the faint of heart but then neither are many Bible stories. There’s also nudity and sexuality so it’s not for kids.
I must have listened to Julia Sweeney's monologue about a dozen times, if not more.
It is pure genius. My wife just went on a retreat with a few women from our UU church and it got rave reviews (and endless laughter).
Unlike Carlin, Sweeney goes deep and personal whereas I see much of Carlin's approach as being offensive the way drunken teenagers try to draw attention to themselves. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate bad taste like the next man, but I get a lot more out of Julia Sweeney and am certain she could be a watershed event for fence sitters.
Do you have a link for Julia's monologue, or is is a DVD you have to buy?
Never mind. Just clued in.
As of today, Bill Maher's film "Religulous" is out on DVD and best of all: Redbox (the self service kiosks at McDonalds) has it for $1 rentals. (I recommend renting it through their website for local pickup so you know they're not out).
Admittedly, I laughed hardest at the Dutch Marihuana minister whose brain had obviously taken its toll from all his religious 'observances'.
@ Sunnyskeptic- Yes, at least manure is used to fertilize things that are useful.
Classic- Not Wanted on the Voyage by Timothy Findley and The Pagan Christ- Tom Harpur
