If one must lie for Jesus in order to defend Jesus then that should be a clear indication that one is not being honest with the evidence for Jesus.

There are believers who personally attack me based on some personal information I relate in my book. These people are believers. I’m attacking their personal invisible friend in their minds. End of story for them. So there must be something wrong with me. Nevermind for the moment that on some occasions they lie for Jesus in attacking me by exaggerating and purposely mischaracterizing exactly what I said. If one must lie for Jesus in order to defend Jesus then that should be a clear indication that one is not being honest with the evidence for Jesus. But then they are blinded by their faith.

It's amazing how rampant this dishonesty can be at times. Having spent a lot of time "debating" evolution, it's amazing the number of self-confessed Christians who lie and misrepresent the science in order to argue against atheism. Some of it surely is misinformation and there might be some misplaced trust in authority figures. But I've never seen a single one actually take the time and effort to learn about what it is they are attacking. If I were to attack Christianity based on what I saw in Zeitgeist, I would hope that every possible person would chastise my choice then point me in the direction of scholarly material on the matter.

I always take it as such - if one needs to lie to support their idea, then their idea has no validity. Surely at one point it dawns on them that their position is untenable. This is what I'll never understand about "true believers"

We are all only human and many people if not most/all people are capable of telling lies.

Some feel a need to cast stones about it,and feel the best way to improve people is to always concentrate on anything (personally bad they can find in somebody).

Some folks might be forgetting that maybe folks who have grown up with plenty of lies in their life, shouldnt maybe be expected to always be so totally perfectly honest or change overnight.

Expect the really extra religious fools to always being looking for the supernatural as some type of benchmark to put forward even if they cant hold to it personally themselves.Thats often all they have been taught and maybe we shouldnt expect many of them to catch on so quickly, that maybe non believers doesnt mean any ones actually trying to claim any total perfection.

I know you've probably seen this, but these billboards are an outrageous example of how Christians are willing to knowingly deceive people to push their agenda: http://blog.thehumanist.com/?p=1599.
