Reality Check: What Must Be the Case if Christianity is True?

18) That although historical reconstructions of the past are are notoriously difficult because they depend on the poor evidence of history, and even though historians must assess that evidence by assuming a natural explanation for it, and even though historical evidence can never establish how to view that evidence, the Christian faith can be established historically anyway. My argument is that when it comes to miraculous claims, yesterday’s evidence no longer can hold water for me, for in order to see it as evidence, I must already believe in the framework that allows me to see it as evidence. In other words, in order to see yesterday’s evidence as evidence for me, I must already believe the Christian framework that allows me to see yesterday’s evidence as evidence for Christianity.

What evidence do you speak of?

Classic Catch-22.

You must first believe, so that you may believe...

WE KILLED MICKEY MOUSE!!! MICKEY MOUSE IS DEAD!!! WE BULLDOZED THE METAPHYSICAL AND WE KILLED MICKEY MOUSE!!!

All joking aside, I couldn't have said it better. I'm pretty sure that in order to see the "evidence" that alien abductions occur, we'd first have to believe that aliens exist and that they abduct people. Of course, in order to believe in aliens, we'd have to refer to the "evidence." And 'round the circle we go...

Gearhead said it pretty well.........."you must first believe in order to believe".

When I left the church I attended, I was often confronted by some christians friends who wondered why I was having doubts.
When I used to question them on so many biblical issues, they were more then perplexed for an answer, so I used to get this alot........"Shane, you have to (want) to believe"!

I found their reasoning totally absurd!
This showed me that they were being nothing more then to be wilfully stubborn in the face of these issues, as well as being intellectually dishonest!!!!

It should never be an issue of "wanting to believe", truth is truth regardless of our wants.
Either you are convinced or your not.

In order to prove a hypothesis, the experiment has to be repeatable with the same or similar results, preferable with different observers and subjects. Has anyone repeated the burning bush, the parting of the Red Sea, the feeding the five thousand, turning water into wine etc.?

@ Clare,

Pffft!

God doesn't play by science rules; that would make the game too easy...

Evidence outside the Bible is not available at this time, therefore you must have faith cuz the book said so!

Don't you people also believe in the Golden tablets of Mormonism, or the White Horse Muhammad rode to Heaven, I mean they're in a book so they must also be true ;)

Last time I went to the library they had a section called Fiction but maybe those stories are true as well!

In order to justify your human fears you have created a god tha acts just like you.

And then you speak of the covenants between God and those God
loves in certain ways.
You cannot understand a God who loves everyone the same so you create
a God who loves certain people for certain reasons.
And then you call these fictions religions.
I call them blasphemies.
Because any statement that says God loves one more than another is false.
And any action that does the same is not a sacriment but a sacriledge.
