Every Feminist Should be an Atheist (and Every Atheist a Feminist)

Daylight Atheism makes this case for me right here. A major reason why I debunk Christianity is because I'm a feminist.

We did a show on the Oklahoma Atheists Godcast just last week about feminism and why atheists should get on board with it. Oddly, the most avid feminist in the room wasn't the female lit prof but the male truck driver. Takes all kinds, I suppose.

I'd say that feminism is to some degree a basic outgrowth of equal human rights. We should always combat discrimination based upon a person's status rather than an individual's personal actions and capabilities.

You know, it's odd, but I think every *Christian* should be an atheist (but not necessarily vice versa, of course). If, as Jesus claims, the Truth shall set you free, then you shouldn't be afraid of the truth, even if what it sets you free from is belief in god! (More on that stream of consciousness crap on http://churchofjesuschristatheist.blogspot.com )

I agree with Damion; feminism is really no more than an insistence on equal rights, which means that we really should stand with any group or individual who is being held down.

I love the line in "Inherit the Wind" where the HL Mencken character played by Gene Kelly says (I paraphrase): "My job is to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable".

In many ways, that's a core Atheistic Christian message...
