There's One Life and It's This Life. And It’s Beautiful.

Video and lyrics below:

So you ask for my opinion
Well what is there to say
To be honest and just foolish
Won’t make you wanna stay

You’ve got to go on and get moving
I can’t do that for you
Got so many plans and so much you want to do

Love is tough, time is rough
Love is tough, time is rough
Whoaaaa on me

Well I see you’ve got your bible
Your delusion imagery
Well I don’t need your eternity
Or your meaning to feel free

I just live because I love to
And that’s enough you see
So don”t come preach about morality
That’s just human sense to me

Love is tough, time is rough
Love is tough, time is rough
Whoaaaa on me
On me-eeee .. on me-eee …

And it’s one life and it’s this life
And it’s beautiful
And it’s beau .. beau .. beau … beautiful

Love is tough, time is rough
Whoaaaa on me
Listen to this song several times and it'll grow on you. At least it has with me. If you think the video is distracting close your eyes. The song and lyrics are superb!

What a shame..such beautiful voices & music, yet such foolish nonsense lyrics.

Heather,
I feel the same way about Christian music ;)

Do you ever feel troubled arguing that God did such a horrible job designing our world and then talking about how great life is? I mean, it certainly causes me to pause.

This is a good piece, John. The music and lyrics work nicely, but as is often the case with music videos, the video makes the viewer work really hard to connect what they hear to what they're being shown. It's seems as though the video designers are intent on upstaging the musicians.

Some of the sentiments of this song bring to mind Tom T. Hall's song called "Life Don't Have To Mean Nothing At All."

My favorite verse is:

Now if you're a con man lookin' for a pigeon
Go out and start a brand new religion
Get on TV and make a money request
They can all go to heaven while they're starving to death
Life don't have to mean nothing at all

The chorus is:

Life don't have to mean nothing at all
Life don't have to mean nothing at all
Be good to your sister and good to your brother
Be good to your papa and good to your mother
Life don't have to mean nothing at all

When we look around the world through our own eyes and see how people live and work and play together, we see a world with people getting along almost all the time. Our own eyes show us the one beautiful life they're singing about. When we look at the world through the distorting and disfiguring eyes of the media, rather than through our own, the world appears to be peopled by kooks, raving lunatics, and madmen bent on destroying each other. The reality however is that: "And it’s one life and it’s this life
And it’s beautiful."

They got it right. Thanks for sharing it John.

TIM MINCHIN'S "Not Perfect" and "Wine" songs also belong in this genre. Fine songs:
