Newspaper in Canada: "Take the Outsider Test for Faith"

Hey, I think this is way cool. Just think, even though the OTF has been "refuted" so many times by so many people it still survives! Perhaps this reporter hasn't seen the refutations, eh? ;-)

It's a letter to the editor, not a reporter. And please let us not use reporters as some judge of what is a sound argument. In my home country there are plenty of stupid fascist reporters.

Congrats though on the exposure it is a good letter for you.

Oops, you're right. Sorry about that.

Believers never sat down and used reason and logic to acquire their beliefs.

What? you mean you do not believe Josh McDowel and Lee Stobel when the spew that it was reason and logic that led them to the Christian World-view

The outsider test is simple, but it requires the believer to examine and justify his or her faith from the position of being on the outside. You cannot use quotes from the Bible, Torah, or even The Koran.

I love this part about the O.T.F. you should consider banning most of the Christians on this site, because they constantly quote scripture to try and prove there point.

I used this today. only it was The Outsider Test for Delicious Candy Bars. I passed, but I think I may have let my love of candy bars influence my decision; also,I gained 8 pounds...

Alasdair MacIntyre's "Three Rival Versions" is a sophisticated presentation and comparison of the robustness of engagement with the "outsider test." See here: http://www.amazon.com/Three-Rival-Versions-Moral-Enquiry/dp/0268018774

Bah! Get thee hence, infidel! For MY name is in the Book of Azathoth!!! Neener neener neeeeneerr!!
Happy Halloween, everybody! And don't forget that this grand holiday also represents, among other things, the pathetic failure of the Church to eradicate a pagan holiday.
Happy Samhain, Fundys!!

By the way, GearHedEd, I'm setting up a Lovecraft theme on my front porch this year to scare trick-or-treaters, featuring me as a Deadite doctor and a bottled Deep One fetus. I'll post the pictures on my blog sometime next week, if possible.

The thing about the OTF is that it challenges religious affiliation and tradition, as Jesus Himself did (ergot His condemnation as a blasphemer -something that you as deconverted evangelicals have no doubt experienced). But "born again" is about familial relationship and natural-versus-divine empowerment -- themes that can be universal to all mankind.

The word you were attempting to use is "ergo" (therefore).

ERGOT is the stuff that was responsible for The Revelation of St. John the Divine.
