But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26 (ESV)
Falsification: Despite this claim, Christians rely on an unending stream of books, sermons, seminars, study guides, pastors, and radio and TV personalities to teach them what the Bible ‘really’ means. They clearly don’t believe the Holy Spirit will teach them… perhaps because of the previously-mentioned problem of the Holy Spirit ‘guiding’ Christians to clashing conclusions about the Bible. Oh, and I’m sure that any number of Bible teachers would just love to explain to you why that verse doesn’t really mean what it seems to be saying.
Claim: That the world will see that Jesus was truly sent by God, as a result of observing the unity of Christians.
I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one--as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. John 17:21 (NLT)
Falsification: This claim comes in the form of a prayer by Jesus. If anyone should be able to get their prayers answered, the Son of God should – right? Wrong, apparently. Conveniently for skeptics, Jesus discredits his own claim of divine appointment with this failed prayer, and Christians everywhere testify to Jesus being a false messiah, by their persistent, systemic lack of unity. With each year that has gone by, Christians have had less unity, schisming and splintering over various beliefs.
The next time a Christian tells you that theirs is the true religion, tell them to get back to you after all Christians are demonstrating the unity that Jesus prayed for, and are in agreement on biblical ‘truths’.
