They produce no knowledge on their own. They are not ways of knowing or discovering anything. They may be enjoyable, moving, and very wonderful emotional past-times-incredibly important aspects of human culture that we have enjoyed for millennia--but that's it. It is no diminishment of their import to the human condition to recognize they are not science, not ways of knowing. LINK.
